The Benefits of essential oils have been known for 6000 years, but with today’s scientific advancements, those benefits are now proven.

… let’s take a moment and explore what essential oils actually are

Plants have an amazing ability to produce two kinds of oils: FIXED OILS, which are a chemical compound of glycerol and fatty acids and ESSENTIAL OILS, which are mixtures of volatile, organic compounds. In this case volatile is a very good thing as it’s what allows the molecules in the oil to quickly change its state, enabling the essential oils to disperse quickly through the air and release those amazing sensory aromas.

For the plant, essential oils are more than just about good smells. Like most organisms, plants have evolved and created their own immune and defence systems, and essential oils play a critical part in a plant’s natural defences against various environmental threats. Their ability to attract insects, repel competition and protect themselves is simply incredible. Essential oils are most often extracted from areas which have the highest risk of threat, such as bark, sap, leaves, seeds and fruit rinds. The fragrances are simply natures way of attracting, repelling and defending, but for humans, they have been a key part of our wellbeing for 1000s of years.

Essential oils create both the flavour and the fragrance of the plant, which is one of the reasons for its name, they are literally the essence of the plant. The other reason for its name is because once upon a time essential oils were such an essential part of our day to day living.

… it’s all about quality and purity

The production method of essential oils will vary based on plant type, this is to make sure that we end up with the purest and highest quality of essential oils. For citrus-based essential oils, we produce by cold pressing the plants, but typically we will extract using water or steam distillation, again ensuring complete purity and quality.

We have mentioned quality and purity a few times, and this is because high quality and pure essential oils are paramount to us. Which is why we control and check the geographical origin of the plant, the distillation process and of course the essential oil itself. There are unfortunately many synthetic essential oils out there today, but even natural essential oils can vary in quality, purity and performance, but only the best goes into a GO2 blend.

… how it works

There are essentially three ways to benefit from essential oils; topically through your skin, internally through your digestive system (both of which need to follow strict guidelines) or aromatically, which is how a GO2 stick works.

When inhaling a GO2 blend, odour molecules are released. The olfactory receptors in our nose are activated and send electrical signals to the higher regions in our brain, the neocortex and limbic system. The limbic system then sends messages to the hypothalamus, the area of the brain which through the pituitary gland sends messages to other parts of the body. Different odour molecules will result in different messages being sent. The GO2 essential oil blends are uniquely formulated to maximise the response for each described mood. For example, the B.CALM blend of lavender, bergamot, cardamom and sweet orange will help calm by assisting in reducing stress, working with your body to reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) and increase endorphin levels.
